On August 13, 1962, C. Farris Bryant, the Governor of Florida incorporated the City of Parkland. Since that time, Parkland has grown over the years to become a popular place for families to call home. Parkland is located in northern Broward County, and with nine parks and five public schools, this family-friendly city is home to over 24,000 residents. Parkland is known for its small-town feel and its proximity to just about everything. Beaches, airports, highways, and area attractions are just short drives away. Parkland also has a variety of shops, restaurants, and houses of worship. In the heart of the city, is the Municipal Complex, located at the corner of University Drive and Holmberg Road. City government, the Parkland Library, and public safety offices are housed in the complex. 

The City of Parkland, established in 1963, has recently been named the Best City in Florida to raise a family by WalletHub. Always “environmentally proud,” Parkland lives up to its name with beautiful parks and recreation areas.

Parkland City Hall

Located in the Municipal Complex on the northeast corner of University Drive and Holmberg Road at 6600 University Drive, City Hall is the epicenter of the City’s administration. City Hall houses the Commission Chamber where City Commission meetings take place, the Office of the Mayor, the City Manager’s office, the City Clerk’s office, and the Departments of Communications, Building, Human Resources, Finance, and Procurement. The City of Parkland has a population of approximately 32,000 and is located in the northwest corner of Broward County. Established in 1963, the City has grown from humble beginnings while remaining environmentally proud and is home to nine parks and five public schools. City Manager

The City Manager’s Office ensures the implementation of the policies of the City Commission through strategic leadership, fiscal stewardship, and quality delivery of municipal services. The department encourages an environment that fosters a commitment to teamwork to internal and external customers.

Under the Charter adopted by the citizens of Parkland, the City Manager is the administrative head of the City government responsible for proper administration of all affairs of the City under the City Manager’s jurisdiction. The City Manager advises the Commission on strategic direction for the City and responds to changing community needs. The City Manager recommends to the City Commission adoption of policies that the Manager believes will benefit the health, safety, and welfare of the community.

Coral Springs Fire Station 97

Station 97 is Parkland’s centrally located fire station, located within the Public Safety Building complex which shares a home with BSO’s Parkland District Office. Coral Springs Fire Department has proudly been serving the community since 1997.

The Parkland Library

The Parkland Library has recently expanded and updated to fit the needs of our growing city. With a mission to “enrich, inform and connect the Parkland community through nurturing and lifelong love of reading and the value of libraries, the Parkland Library offers programs, events and materials for all ages. New books, old classics, DVDs, books on CD and more are available for check out for residents of Parkland. Additionally, they offer a full menu of online books, movies and resources. Computers are also available for use as well as study and tutoring areas.

The City of Parkland Fire Department

Working in conjunction with neighboring City of Coral Springs Fire Department, The City of Parkland offers fire rescue and emergency medical services. There are three fire stations located throughout the city and Parkland owns the stations and equipment/apparatus.

BSO-Parkland District Police Department

Safety is at the forefront of the BSO-Parkland District. In 2004, the Parkland City Commission approved the merger of the Parkland’s law enforcement operations with the Broward Sheriff’s Office. This district consists of a district Captain, one Lieutenant, seven Sergeants, 40 Deputies and five administrators. The Parkland BSO District oversees Code Enforcement and Public Safety throughout the City of Parkland. Some of the services offered by the district include: finger printing, Craigslist Safe Haven, Solicitor Program, a mapping program for the disclosure of Sexual Offenders and Predators, as well as a Home Watch Program.

Parkland Equestrian Center

Throughout the city’s history, Parkland has been a place for equestrians to safely ride and compete. From dressage to jumper shows, the equestrian events always draw horse enthusiasts within the city as well as the neighboring communities. The open space and two equestrian rings at The Equestrian Center at Temple Park offer riding and show opportunities. The Parkland Horseman’s Association is a non-profit organization that also assists with promoting and supporting horsemanship, safe riding and education.
